Beverly J. Hanks

Beverly J. Hanks (Wendlandt) passed away on Oct. 22, 2019, at the age of 84 in Post Falls, Idaho, after a short but hard-fought illness.

Beverly was born on Jan. 21, 1935, to Alvin and Emma Jo Wendlandt and enjoyed her childhood with her brothers, Hal and Jim Wendlandt, and her sister, Jean McCormick.

Beverly married her childhood sweetheart, Donald Tuntland, in 1953 and together they had three sons, Ken, Michael and Jon. Her three boys kept her busy, making sure she never had a dull moment and giving her plenty of stories to tell her grandchildren.

Beverly and Don worked in the family grocery business alongside their sons for many years and were divorced in 1973.

In 1979, she and Duane Hanks were married and lived in Post Falls until his death in 2003.

Bev was a businesswoman who took great joy in investing in real estate. She loved to travel and garden, and enjoyed hosting Wendlandt family reunions at her riverfront property, where she lived for more than 30 years. She could often be found sitting on her porch drinking her coffee, visiting with friends and watching the activity on the river.

Beverly has 6 grandchildren; Kaci, Alyssa, Mike, Brianna, Lindsey and Kristi as well as 13 and 1/2 great grandchildren who loved her dearly and are so thankful for the memories she has left them with.

Bev always made sure that Sundays were left open for her grandkids when they were young. Despite driving a small, two-door Volkswagen and having six grandchildren, she made sure that no one was left out and all of the kids got to go out to breakfast with grandma. It was worth the tight squeeze to spend the day together.

Beverly was preceded in death by her brother, Harold (Hal) Wendlandt, her son, Michael Tuntland, her grandson, Barney Tuntland, and her great grandson, Benjamin Michael.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. at Bev’s residence in Post Falls.
