A Coeur d’Alene High School student was arrested on Monday for threatening violence on school grounds.

According to police, a group of students overheard a 15-year-old student discussing a school shooting. Parents of one of the students contacted police, who investigated.

After police conducted several interviews, the student and his family were contacted at their residence the same evening. Police said they established probable cause for the arrest of the student and took him into custody.

“We are confident this is an isolated incident and there are no other students or individuals associated with these threats and there is no cause for concern of any ongoing threat to the school,” Captain Dave Hagar of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department said in a news release.

The investigation continued yesterday, police said.

“As student safety is our number one priority, we always encourage students to immediately report any potential threat or suspicious behavior,” Hagar said.
