Evelyn Lucile Oakland, 93

Evelyn Lucile Oakland, age 93, of Coeur d’Alene, died Oct. 30, 2019. She was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Worthington, Nobles County, Minn., to Henry J. and Flora F. (Doeden) Bisch. She attended Central Grade School and graduated from Worthington High School in 1944.

She attended Worthington Junior College for two quarters and was offered the job of registrar and secretary to the dean of the college in 1945. She met her husband, Edwin D. “Bud” Oakland, in 1946, when he enrolled at the junior college after serving in the Navy. They were married on Aug. 22, 1947, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Worthington.

In 1951, Bud and Evie moved to Coeur d’Alene. A son, Charles E., was born in 1952 and Evie became a full-time wife, mother and homemaker — a role which she cherished. A daughter, Rebecca S., was born in 1955. She also enjoyed all their trips in their RV and winters spent in Arizona and Texas.

Music held a special place in her heart and she played the organ and piano. She loved to cook and was known especially for her delicious cookies. She was creative in a variety of craft hobbies and liked to read. She also found time to garden. For over 50 years, she loved to fellowship with an eight-member “birthday bunch.” She was an ordained elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church and active in Mary Circle and Women’s Association. She treasured her Presbyterian friends.

She is survived by a son, Charles (Linda) Oakland; daughter, Rebecca (Ken) Clegg; grandson, Chad (Niki) Oakland; granddaughter, Corryn Oakland; great-grandchildren, Brady, Cooper, Tatum and Miller Oakland; and brother, Everett (Emma) Bisch of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin “Bud” Oakland; parents, Henry and Flora Bisch; and sister, Beverly Masgai.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene is in care of the arrangements.
