Lake City blanked by Mountain View
MERIDIAN — The Mountain View Mavericks scored early and often as they dominated visiting Lake City in a 58-0 victory in the opening round of the 5A state playoffs on Friday night.
“Everything that could go wrong did,” Lake City coach Brian Fulp said. “We got out-physicalled, they made some big plays early and they were off. Plus, we had a couple kids go down with knee injuries.”
The Mavericks (8-2), who will visit Coeur d’Alene (7-2) next Friday at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup, led 30-0 after one quarter and 51-0 at halftime. The second half was played with a running clock.
“They had a lot of team speed and were able to get to the edge in the run game, and then they completed some big passes,” Fulp said. “Our guys continued to fight. They were just faster, bigger and stronger than us.”
Fulp said although Friday’s loss is tough to take, the Timberwolves (4-6) took steps toward improvement this year, including qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
“This hurts, but in a couple days or a week we’ll be able to look back and be proud of some of our accomplishments this season,” he added.
