Franklin Lee Howerton

Franklin Lee Howerton, of Blanchard, Idaho, went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2019. Frank passed away unexpectedly in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, from complications following surgery at Kootenai Medical Center.

Frank was born July 9, 1953, to Garold Wayne Howerton (deceased) and Delores Lillian (Clyde) Howerton.

He was the oldest of three children: brother, Stan (wife, Becky) Howerton of Hayden and sister, Audrey (husband, Jake) Sweet of Lewiston, Idaho. Frank grew up in Stites, Idaho, graduating in 1971 from Clearwater Valley High School.

Frank has two amazing children from his first marriage to Linda Arlt: daughter, Kristine, (husband, Jake) Rose of Athol, Idaho, and son, Jake (wife, Jenny) Howerton of Sagle, Idaho; and four cherished grandchildren: Jackson Rose, Brent and Megan Howerton and Jaiden Steiner.

Frank later married Deborah Wicks, the love of his life, and they have spent the last 12 wonderful and happy years together.

Frank had two stepchildren: Nichole (husband, Chuck) Golinaux and their son Jaiden, of Pueblo, Colo., and Jeffery (wife, Kamie) Garner, of Bozeman, Mont. Frank was loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews as well.

Frank was the epitome of a logger. He loved, lived and breathed logging for 50 years. He ran his own company for many years and became partners in Howerton Brothers Logging with his brother, Stan, and nephew, Jason Stone, for the last eight years, serving as its president. He was a member of the Associated Logging Contractors, serving on the board in various positions. He also served on the Associated Loggers Exchange Board of Governors for many years, serving as its vice-chairman in 2005 and chairman in 2006. Frank remained a very active board member for all the A.L.C. family companies throughout his time as a member.

One of his greatest accomplishments was building his own log dream home with his wife Debbie, constructing it from white pine trees he logged himself. He accomplished this amazing feat with God by his side and his son-in-law, Jake Rose. He and Debbie often stated how blessed they were to live there.

Frank LOVED his family and friends! He recently expressed that he wished he had been less driven in work and had spent more time with his family. He was like a campfire marshmallow, crusty on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. He loved to hunt, fish, camp and play with his grandchildren. Words cannot express how much he is loved and will be missed.

Frank gave his life to the Lord many years ago and was baptized by his brother Stan. There was not a day that went by that he did not devote time to studying the word of God.

A memorial service and luncheon for Frank will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Lake City Community Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.

A casual gathering for family and close friends to follow at the home of Stan and Becky Howerton, 10064 N. Maple, Hayden, ID 83835.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Natural Resources Scholarship Fund, Associated Logging Contractors, PO Box 371, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83816.
