Cavanagh fuels Cardinal sweep

PENDLETON, Ore. — A host of North Idaho College players had big days on Saturday.

But it was the former Lake City Timberwolf that did in the Timberwolves of Blue Mountain.

Bailey Cavanagh, a sophomore from Lake City High, finished with five hits and nine RBIs on the day for the Cardinals, who swept the Blue Mountain Timberwolves 25-3 and 14-0 in Northwest Athletic Conference play.

In the opener, Cavanagh hit a grand slam in the Cardinals’ 10-run fourth inning, then hit a solo shot in the second inning of the nightcap.

Ashlyn Winn, Madi Mott, Brianna Hecker and Taylor Anderson also homered in the opener for NIC.

Jori Kerr, Cavanagh and JJ Hammond had three RBIs each in the nightcap for NIC.

NIC (11-7, 9-3 NWAC) faces the Community Colleges of Spokane in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Spokane Falls Community College, starting at 2 p.m.
