Arguing is over; now let's vote

A recall battle in formerly peaceful Dalton Gardens.

A fight for survival — or at least, a chance to cling to minimum funding for maximum performance — is on for all of the area’s school districts.

Considering the nonpartisan nature of an oddly timed election, some important and fascinating decisions will be rendered on Tuesday. March 12, in case you hadn’t noticed, is election day.

The Press has published scores of letters on all sides of the issues. The newspaper’s editorial board has also shared its opinion in four endorsement editorials:

- We oppose the Dalton recall as an overreaction that would better be addressed at the polls in November.

- We support the funding requests of Lakeland, Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene school districts as necessary to maintain quality education in our communities.

Whether you agree or disagree is beside the point. The fact that so many citizens have taken the time and invested the energy into writing to express their opinions and, perhaps, to sway others’ is beautiful evidence of democracy in action. This is not to say that anybody’s predicting the level of outstanding participation witnessed last November. But it’s encouraging that so many people are fully engaged.
