RECALL: Reject misinformation

| March 8, 2019 12:00 AM

As residents of Dalton Gardens, we feel compelled to weigh in on the current recall fiasco that is causing division in our normally calm town.

In our opinion, a small group of perhaps well-intentioned but misinformed people have hijacked the political process and created controversy. Several months ago a proponent of the recall knocked on our door and did everything possible to convince us to sign the recall petitions. She misrepresented the actions of the city government and made statements that were designed to anger us. She brought up issues that had nothing to do with city government as justification to oust our elected city representatives. As we researched her claims and the issues related to the actions of the mayor and city council, our opinion was easily made up to vote NO RECALL.

Another issue that has clouded this matter is the recent announcement of the possible reconstruction of Fourth Street. Since we live on Fourth Street, we are directly affected by such a project. This issue has nothing to do with the recall. It is something that citizens need to provide input to the city council and mayor on. Attending and participating in the monthly city council meetings is something everyone concerned about these and other current issues needs to do.
