DALTON: Support the recall

| March 7, 2019 12:00 AM

Our City Council, knowingly back in 2012/13 gave our community away in the Transportation Plan adopted by them. I quote the 2013 Transportation Plan Page 15, it’s on the city’s website titled Wilbur Avenue Widening;

“Once Government Way is complete to Prairie Avenue, Wilbur will connect to US 95. This will then be a primary route for accessing US 95. Wilbur Avenue should be widened to accommodate the increase in traffic and provide pedestrian/bicycle connectivity to Government Way and US 95” the plan continues to state on Page 12 “Dalton does not have a seat at the table at the local planning organization, Kootenai County Metropolitan Planning Organization (KMPO).”

What I would emphasize now is that the possibility presents itself of how we lose control of Fourth Street and any other roads that we accept federal/KMPO funds for, how expensive will the maintenance be, the increase in traffic and the impact on safety for residents on Fourth Street. It’s not Dalton’s responsibility to ease traffic congestion north, south, east and west that should have been addressed with U.S. 95 or other arterials KMPO could have planned.

So why does our City Council continue to give our community’s quality of life away? We as citizens have become involved in our community in order to restore why we chose to live in this unique city. When tying this all together, which gives the citizens the opportunity to stop all of the above conflicts before it’s too late and keep us rural and unique.
