DALTON: Hypocrisy in action
Jeff Crandall, spokesman for the “Save Dalton” group, has raised many Planning and Zoning issues. In 1998 and 1999, as an alternate on the Dalton Gardens P&Z Commission, Mr. Crandall has a record of his own. A simple public records request has revealed how seemingly conflicted Mr. Crandall is on interpreting Planning and Zoning Ordinances.
Twice during Mr. Crandall’s tenure, he voted in favor of the same types of zoning requests he now claims are illegal. On June 15, 1998, he voted for a variance to subdivide a 1 3/4-acre parcel into two non-conforming parcels that would be less than an acre each and have less than the required 110 feet of frontage.
In the minutes of that meeting, Mr. Crandall stated he felt that because the deed was from 1956, the planning and zoning committee should grant the variance.
In July 1999, Mr. Crandall voted again to approve a second non-conforming variance request. This request was made by the Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission himself.
Both of the variance requests he voted to approve back then are very similar to the variance requests he is now adamantly against.
It seems Mr. Crandall had a “different vision” of Dalton Gardens when he couldn’t see the contested property from his house. But his vision changed when this recent variance involved property he can see from his kitchen window.
There is a guiding principle many of us try to live by. If you live in a glass house, you’d best be careful about casting stones. The stones cast against this mayor and council are a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.
Please vote AGAINST the recall.
