SWIMMING

Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team: Forty-eight swimmers from CAST competed in the 2019 Inland Empire Short Course Championships last weekend in Moscow.

The meet featured 340 swimmers from North Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Eastern Oregon. CAST placed fourth overall in the 15-team field, just four points out of third place.

Gabby Garasky broke 3 Inland Empire swimming records — in the 50 butterfly, 50 freestyle, and 400 individual medley — all of which had stood for well over a decade. She placed first in six individual events en route to winning high point honors for the 11-12 girls.

Logan Robillard tied for high point in the 13-14 boys category, winning 5 events. The relay team of Lauren Stephens, Trista Slife, Gabby Garasky, and Pema Anain broke a 13 year old team record in the 200 medley relay, while Garasky, Slife, Anain, and Camryn Schmidt teamed up to break the 200 freestyle CAST relay record.

Coeur d’Alene’s other individual event winner was Aren Kariotis, who took home a pair of wins and was third in the high point race for the 15-and-over boys.
