Opera on the Lake cruise scheduled July 14

| June 29, 2019 1:00 AM

Inland Northwest Opera offers the annual Opera on the Lake, a sunset cruise that begins at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 14, with boarding at 6:30 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort.

“Opera on the Lake has become a tradition in Coeur d’Alene,” said Nate Jolley, president of Inland Northwest Opera. “We combine three boats for a theater in the round and seats fill up fast. It’s a great way to get out on the lake and enjoy a glorious ending to the weekend.”

The opera features Mozart’s test of true love, “Così Fan Tutte.” In this romantic comedy, C?osì fan tutte (subtitled “The School for Lovers”) offers a handy how-to guide for measuring true commitment among fiancées.

When two officers, Ferrando and Guglielmo, discuss how they believe their fiancées, Dorabella and Fiordiligi respectively, will stay faithful to them, they are put to a wager. The only people who emerge unscathed are the two puppeteers of the love-farce, Don Alfonso and his helper, the mischievous maid Despina. The four lovers go through agonies of doubt and guilt, along with trials and tribulations. One big take-away direct from Mozart: Love is best as a spectator sport.

The cast will include local talent Heather Parker as Despina; Derrick Parker as Don Alfonso; Max Mendez as Guglielmo; Tim Augustin, a regular with Washington National Opera, as Ferrando; Tess Altiveros, returning from 2018 and a regular with Seattle Opera, as Fiordiligi; and Hannah Penn, a Portland Opera regular, as Dorabella. Così fan tutte is sung in English with English dialogue.

Tickets are $50-$75 at are available at www.inlandnwopera.com.
