ASSESSED: Proposition needed

| June 26, 2019 1:00 AM

I couldn’t agree more with Sharyn Flanagan’s letter regarding our property taxes going up.

We too are retired and on a fixed income. We love Spirit Lake and our little home we bought in 2017. Our new assessment notice shows our house has gone UP $56,000. Say what? All we’ve done is put a Tuff Shed and some black cyclone fencing in.

Our neighbor’s has gone up $80,000.

I never vote YES on anything (because that always means your taxes are going to go up), but I would vote YES for a proposition that keeps property taxes under control for sure.

Friends I know in California who have lived in (and paid off) their homes are paying the ORIGINAL price for property taxes as when they BOUGHT the house some 30 years ago… we DEFINITELY need something like that here in Idaho.

People who have bought and paid for their homes should not have to worry about losing them because they can’t afford the property tax.

Let’s get it on the ballot!
