Louise Armitage, 79
On Thursday, June 13, 2019, Louise Armitage, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend, passed away at the age of 79. Her final days were spent at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, surrounded by the caring embrace of her loved ones. Louise was born on March 12, 1940, to James Calkins and Alice Calkins (Couture) in Bothell, Wash. She graduated from Bothell High School in 1957 and subsequently obtained an accounting degree from North Idaho College.
Louise was an exceptionally loving and devoted mother of two. Her son, Herman Anthony Armitage, was born in 1960 and daughter, Julie Diana Toole, was born in 1966. Then, on July 18, 1981, Louise met and married the love of her life, James Armitage.
Louise’s passion and dedication to more than 20 years of service at Kootenai Electric Cooperative was matched only by the fierce pride and love she held for her family and grandchildren. The endless gymnastics practices and meets and soccer practices and games that she so enthusiastically attended will forever live on as precious memories in our hearts.
Semi-annual vacations to Disney World were always Louise’s favorite, but other family adventures included trips to Hawaii, Europe, Russia, Iowa and various Caribbean cruises. Even brief acquaintances of Louise were quick to learn of her enthusiasm for Disney adventures with her daughter and grandchildren.
Her family will miss her “over-the-top” Christmases — not for the presents, but for the time and effort she poured into decorating and the enjoyment it brought to her family. This world was forever brightened by her presence and the people whose lives she touched have benefited tremendously from the love, wisdom and kindness she so effortlessly shared.
Louise is survived by her loving husband, James K. Armitage; her son, Herman A. Armitage (wife, Morgana); her daughter, Julie D. Toole (husband, Michael); her sister-in-law, Donna Calkins and grandchildren, Brittany D. Pica-Dorscher (husband, Isaac) and Aidan M. Toole. Louise is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles W. Calkins.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, located at 744 N. Fourth St. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2019, at Yates Funeral Home. Interment will be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
