Strong relief pitching carries Indians to sweep

SPOKANE — Two relievers combined for 5.1 shutout innings, helping Spokane hold off visiting Boise 3-2 on Monday night for a four-game sweep at Avista Stadium.

Before 3,287 fans, Sam Hellinger threw 3.1 innings to earn the win, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out six Hawks. Werner Leal threw the final two innings to earn the save, recording three strikeouts.

The Indians (9-2) trailed 2-1 in the fourth inning before Jonah McReynolds’ RBI single tied the contest. In the next inning, Luis Asuncion raced around to score on Blaine Crim’s RBI double to put Spokane ahead to stay.

Crim finished with three hits for the Indians, who host Tri-City tonight at 6:30.
