Something fun this way comes
Art on the Green 2019 is headed this way.
The 51st annual event will be held Aug. 2-4 on the grounds of North Idaho College.
This year promises great new entertainment, 160 plus Fine Artist booths (including more than 60 artists new to “Art on the Green”); food, family fun, art classes, The Clothesline Art Sale, The Children’s Art Garden, a Beer & Wine Garden, the Juried Art Show and much more.
Some of the highlights of this year’s new entertainment include performances by Curtis Salgado (soul/blues/ R&B), Good Company (electro swing band), Honey Mustard (jazz/blues/Latin/R&B), Barefoot Movement (bluegrass) John Roberts y Pan Blanco (latin/ jazz/salsa/afro funk), and Tingstad & Rumbel (contemporary instrumental). Highlighted local entertainment includes Expressions Dance and Coeur d’Alene’s Sweet Adelines.
One of the new food events planned for Saturday evening is a “burger and brew” special, which will be offered adjacent to the Beer and Wine Garden. Old favorites include sausage, pulled pork, local corn on the cob, and ice cream. A wellness bar is new this year, joining returning food carts by Mangia Pizza and KettleCorn.
“Children’s Art Garden” this year will feature painting of clay pots with flowers to plant in the completed pots, kite decorating and assembly, as well as many favorites including easel painting, pottery, gourds, T-shirts and many more fun activities. Special events in the Children’s Art Garden include a songwriting class (limited to children ages 12 and up) taught by Eden from the performing group called “West my Friend” taught on Sunday, Aug. 4, from 2-3 p.m. and a dance class and art activity for children with special needs and sensory processing difficulties. This class is taught by Mackenzie Robson, behavior therapist and program director of ”Just for Kix.” It’s offered on Friday, Aug. 2 from noon to 1 p.m. Both of these classes are free. Contact the Art on the Green office at 208-667-9346 or email info@artonthegreen.org.
As a result of many requests from patrons, the Juried Art Show this year has added a “People’s Choice” award. The winning artist will receive a $250 prize. Visitors to the Juried Art Show tent may cast votes Friday or Saturday before 6 p.m. The winner of the first People’s Choice Award will be announced on the North Stage Saturday evening.
The 2019 Brooten Award winner is Timberlake Junior High School. Principal Chris McDougall will be selecting a piece of art from the Juried Show to be permanently displayed at his school. This is an award given each year to a local school by Citizens’ Council for the Arts (CCA), the nonprofit that sponsors Art on the Green.
Volunteering at the Festival is great fun. We have many opportunities in our Children’s Area, food booths, Juried Art Show and corn booth. Please email us at info@artonthegreen.org or call us at 208-667-9346 if you are interested. We love our volunteers and hope you will consider joining us as Art on the Green is an ALL VOLUNTEER Festival.
Art on the Green this year, in partnership with the Sue and Pat Flammia Endowment Fund, was able to provide approximately $10,000 of much needed art supplies to six schools in the Coeur d’Alene School District determined to be in the greatest need of assistance. The monies made from Art on the Green make giving back to our community possible as well as providing all of the free entertainment on two stages enjoyed each year at Art on the Green.
We hope you join us this year on the grounds of North Idaho College to enjoy this amazing festival celebrating our 51st annual event!
