Briefly
- The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is still investigating last Monday’s bomb scare near the Kootenai County Courthouse. Investigators are looking at additional evidence to discover who planted a suspicious device in the parking lot near the Hitching Post, less than one block from the courthouse. The discovery of the item — which was designed to appear like an explosive but was not dangerous — prompted police to block traffic that afternoon from the intersection of Government Way and Northwest Boulevard, as well as divert traffic on First Street between Wallace and Garden.
- “All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914,” an off-Broadway production of Coeur d’Alene’s own Laura Little Theatrical Productions, won the prestigious Drama Desk Unique Theatrical Experience Award. It’s the highest award the show could have won for an off-Broadway production. The Drama Desk is an organization of writers, editors, publishers and broadcasters covering theater in New York City. The awards are the only major theater honors for which Broadway, off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway shows compete in the same category.
- East Side Highway District will rehabilitate a 4.2-mile stretch of Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive from Silver Beach Loop to Higgens Point east of Coeur d'Alene from July 8 through Aug. 9. No road closures are expected, but there will be delays, district officials said. The impact to the Centennial Trail will be minimal. The cost of the project is $819,000. For more information, call the district at 208-765-4714.
