DEPLORABLE: And proud of it

| June 23, 2019 1:00 AM

WOW! In all the opinion letters I’ve written, I don’t remember getting personal with another writer, with the exception of the Press editor. I’ve tried to make my point without attacking someone because once you do, the walls come up and listening ends. So, with that said, I’m going to be as diplomatic as I can about an opinion letter I read June 19th, by Joe Lykins.

How many of you remember in 2008 former President Barack Obama was speaking at a private San Francisco fundraiser when he belittled small-town Pennsylvanians for being “bitter and turning to God, guns and anti-immigrant sentiment to make themselves feel better.”

Then there was Hillary Clinton’s comment while speaking at the LGBT for Hillary Gala in New York City in 2016, when she said, “…you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic — you name it.”

Now I come to Joe Lykins and his comment, “Like the Confederate and Nazi flags, MAGA will serve chiefly to point out someone who is politically lazy and will believe whatever someone else tells them to believe.” That was when my wall came up.

Joe, I was listening to you until you, like Obama and Clinton, became personal and belittled millions of people. You may not be, but your comment came across like a typical elitist and that is what put Trump in office ... and most likely will again. By the way, I’m a “Trump Deplorable.”
