Vandal women’s basketball star Ferenz signs pro
contract in Luxembourg
Former Idaho women’s basketball standout Mikayla Ferenz signed her first professional contract to play for AB Contern of the Total League-Dames in Luxembourg.
The Total League-Dames is the highest women’s basketball league in Luxembourg.
“I am so excited to play in Luxembourg,” Ferenz said. “It was always my dream to continue my basketball career after college, and I am thrilled I get to do it in a country as beautiful as Luxembourg and for a competitive club. I get to see Europe for the first time and be a professional athlete. It’s a dream come true for me.”
Ferenz, the 2018-19 Big Sky Player of the Year, led Idaho to a regular-season conference title and two wins in the WNIT. In her senior season she averaged 22 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, finishing her career with a school — and Big Sky — record 2,466 points.
In her four-year career, Ferenz shot at a 44.4 percent clip (865 of 1,949) from the field and 38.4 percent (415 of 1,082) from the 3. She made 415 3-pointers in her career, becoming the sixth woman in NCAA history to break 400 triples. In the last four years, spanning Ferenz’s career, the Vandals advanced to the postseason, winning a conference title in her freshman year, appearing in the 2016 NCAA tournament, advancing to the semifinals of the 2017 WBI and grabbing two WNIT wins this past season.
Ferenz reports to AB Contern in mid August.
