NAMES: Can be a warning

| June 21, 2019 1:00 AM

What’s in a name? If I changed my name to “God-like” Neumann, would you believe I’m god-liked? (spoiler: don’t). Then why does a political party call itself democratic socialist?

Democracy: government in which the supreme power is held by the people. Socialism: social system based on government control of the production and distribution of goods.

There was once another society that called itself “national sozial” (short form: nazi). They were all about power no matter the effect on the national or on the social. Point: calling yourself something nice sounding doesn’t make it so. In fact, it should be a warning of the exact opposite.

“Progressive” is another such self-chosen title. Progress: movement forward or to a better condition. Is that what today’s liberals are doing? Is it progress to bury Americans under volumes of laws, call us a nation of laws and then ignore or excuse so many of them? Is it progress to demand acceptance of one social perversion after another? Is it progress to grow abortion from “safe, legal and rare” to first trimester to any time to even after live birth? Is that movement forward or to a better condition?

There’s a saying: Before you decide to follow someone, be sure he’s heading in the right direction.
