Locals take shot at qualifying for

U.S. Junior Amateur

Several local players were in the field for a qualifying tournament for the U.S. Junior Amateur.

However, only one spot was available, and Tommy Kimmel of Spokane earned it by shooting a 2-over-par 74 to claim medalist honors Tuesday at The Club at Rock Creek, located south of Coeur d’Alene.

Kimmel, a rising junior at Gonzaga Prep, advances to compete in the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur, scheduled for July 15-20 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Bryden Brown of Moscow shot 77 and tied for fifth.

Cameron Johnson of Coeur d’Alene shot 78, Brayden Ogle of Hayden shot 80, Cole Jaworski of Hayden shot 82, and Ryan Chapman of Hayden and Wyatt Williams of Hayden Lake each shot 84.

Timbers FC North 05 boys eliminated

at regionals

The Timbers FC North 05 boys soccer team fell 4-0 to Rio Rapids 05 of New Mexico in the final game of pool play at the Far West Regional tournament on Wednesday at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise.

The Timbers won their first game on Monday against Jackson Hole (Wyo.) 3-2, then fell to LVSA 05 Red of Nevada 4-2 on Tuesday.

Connor Cousins and Paul Melendres scored two goals each for the Rio Rapids.

Both Rio Rapids and LVSA Red, which finished the pool unbeaten, advanced to the quarterfinals starting Friday.

The Timbers North FC 01/02 team concluded play at the tournament with a 4-0 loss to the Strikers 2001 Black of California to conclude pool play 0-3.
