TUG: Barging into habitat
I read with interest the article “Tugboats Helped Build Cd’A” in the June 16 Cd’A Press. It seemed to be an advocacy piece by Press Staff Writer Ralph Bartholdt to support Mr. John Condon of North Idaho Maritime, who wants to build another commercial dock out into Lake Coeur d’Alene. The Press article explains how Mr. Condon needs to build an industrial dock out into the lake to help his barge business.
I find it curious that the Press supports a commercial dock construction on the lake, at a place where there are now only scenic shorelines. I support local business, but I would prefer we, and the Press, let Mr. Condon stick with the commercial docks he already has, and not further damage the lake habitat for the rest of us.
