Hatley, Grove among leaders as Oregon Open begins
BEND, Ore. — Amateur Reid Hatley of Hayden Lake Country Club shot a 1-under-par 71 at Pronghorn Resort and is tied for third after Tuesday’s first day of the Oregon Open Invitational, one of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s majors.
North Idaho College men’s and women’s golf coach Russell Grove, the 2017 Oregon Open champion, shot 72 in the first round and is tied for sixth.
Amateur Nick Cuchessi (Hayden Lake) shot 76 and is tied for 25th.
Professional Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley Country Club of Kent, Wash., shot a 68 for a two-stroke lead after the first day, played on the Nicklaus Course. Thornton won this event back in 2012 at Broken Top Club.
The next two rounds of the 54-hole tourney are today and Thursday at the par-72 Fazio Course at Pronghorn.
