Goedde, Hazel, Ostermeyer seek board seats
A handful of Kootenai County residents have tossed their hat in the ring seeking appointment to the State Board of Education. The deadline to apply was 5 p.m. Monday.
Among the locals hoping to replace Don Soltman, whose term expires this month, is John Goedde. Goedde is a former state senator from Coeur d’Alene. He served as chairman of the Senate Education Committee and was involved in public education on a national scale.
Other names that might be familiar to Press readers:
*Christa Hazel is a longtime education advocate who served on the Coeur d’Alene School Board.
*Fred Ostermeyer of Post Falls is a financial adviser and former North Idaho College trustee. Ostermeyer is involved in efforts to increase financial literacy in Idaho.
*Ronald Deady is a frequent Press letter writer who often focuses on what he considers shortcomings in local public education.
Here’s a list of all the applicants, provided this morning by Gov. Brad Little’s office. In addition to Soltman, Richard Westerberg’s term also expires at the end of June, so Gov. Little will appoint two applicants, who then require confirmation by the Idaho Senate.
