- Starting in mid-June, youth crews from the Idaho Conservation Corps will be assisting with bank restoration at the Clark Fork River delta.

Three crews are expected to stay and work at the delta during June 10 to 20, July 22 to 26, and Aug. 19 to 23.

Extensive bank erosion at the site due in part to dams and hydropower operations has affected fish and wildlife habitat. The crews will remove weeds and plant native vegetation including woody and wetland plants.

- Fish and Game commissioners on June 13 opened Chinook salmon fishing on the Middle Fork of the Clearwater River to allow anglers the opportunity to harvest hatchery fish bound for the Selway River that are normally caught in the Lower Clearwater River, which did not have a Chinook season this spring.

More than 1,200 hatchery spring Chinook salmon are destined for the Selway River. Fisheries managers did not propose a fishing season on the South Fork of the Salmon River because the run appears to be too small to support fishing, according to Fish and Game.

- Jessica Schell of Timberlake High School and Trevor Thorp of Lakeland received the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship. The award is $3,000 per year, renewable for two to three years for career-technical programs. Recipients were chosen from more than 1,000 applicants based on each applicant’s commitment to public service, academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. Schell and Thorpe plan to attend North Idaho College in the fall.
