EDUCATION

Students from North Idaho were among the 1,521 Montana State University undergraduates who received diplomas during MSU’s 2019 spring commencement ceremonies held May 4 in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Students with two asterisks after their name (**) graduated with highest honors. To graduate with highest honors, undergraduate students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.70. Undergraduate students graduating with honors have a single asterisk (*) after their name. To qualify for graduation with honors, students must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 to 3.69.

50th Anniversary

Lavern and Kathy Welton will celebrate 50 years of marriage on June 21, 2019. They were married in Hardin, Mont., in 1968.

There will be an anniversary celebration from 12:30-4 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2019, at the Rathdrum Bible Church on Wright and Stevens streets.

MILITARY

Ensign Steven Price, a 2013 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate and Coeur d’Alene native, is participating in a rigorous training process that transforms officers into U.S. naval aviators.

Price is a student pilot with the “Redhawks” of Training Squadron (VT) 21, based in Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas. The squadron flies T-45C Goshawk aircraft.

Lt. j.g. Steven Hallgren, a 2011 Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy graduate and Coeur d’Alene native, is participating in a rigorous training process that transforms officers into U.S. naval aviators.

Hallgren is a student pilot with the “Golden Eagles” of Training Squadron (VT) 22, based in Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas. The squadron flies T-45C Goshawk aircraft.

Ensign Derek Hansen, a 2013 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate and Athol native, supports the training of naval aviation personnel and air operations.

Hansen is a student pilot serving with Training Air Wing 4 at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. Training Air Wing 4 oversees Primary flight training in T-6B Texan II aircraft and Advanced multi-engine flight training in T-44C Pegasus aircraft at four squadrons on base.

Gil Givens, a 2012 Post Falls High School graduate just received his wings of gold and will be flying F-18’s out of NAS Oceana. Gil’s brother, Thatcher Givens, just graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and was selected to become a Naval aviator.
