Penny ‘Beverly’ Dayle Schumacher, 75

Penny “Beverly” Dayle Schumacher, 75, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, was peacefully guided to heaven in our Savior’s loving arms, on June 3, 2019, with her family by her side.

When Penny was five years old, she met Jesus at the Missionary Alliance Church in Berkeley, Calif. That was the beginning of her life-long journey with Christ.

She was made of the “right stuff.” Her father landed on Normandy Beach in 1944 while her mother was raising her above a corner grocery store in a one-room flat. After the war, the family moved to California from Illinois, and lived in a boxcar until better housing became available.

Penny was always a happy, energetic person, with never a care in the world for most of her life. She attended Berkeley High School, where she met the love of her life, Russell W. Schumacher Jr. Penny and Russ swore to each other on graduation night that they would marry. They married in 1964. After marriage and college, it was off to the Marine Corps, six children and 30 moves in 30 years.

Penny was always very well liked, had an infectious personality and loved people. She was a cheerleader who sold more high school yearbooks than anyone to get a free one. She knew about the almighty dollar from her boxcar days.

She was always competitive. She hiked the European Alps, summited more mountains than we can name, downhill skied, cross-country skied, water skied, ran (and ran some more) and played tennis, all as she traveled the world. She taught Sunday School for 30 years and organized vacation Bible schools forever. While doing this, she raised six girls and was honored as ‘Military Mother of the Year.’

If you met her, you remembered her. Her smile was infectious. She could talk to the president as easily as the homeless. Penny dearly loved her husband of 56 years, her girls and her grandchildren. She was always instructing from her wisdom and encouraging. She loved the challenge of engaging us all. Never a whimper with her lung disease, just full-speed ahead, enjoying each day God gave her. She cannot be replaced. Heaven is her new home. She will be sorrowfully missed by all of us, but at the feet of Jesus.

A celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Christ the King Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations towards Salvation Army, The USO, The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Young Life.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit her online memorial and sign the guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
