- The Press has expanded our front-page weather graphic, above. AQI stands for “air quality index, a measure of airborne particulate and allergens. UV gauges sunburn-causing ultraviolet light. The high is in red; the low in blue. We’ve also added wind speed, the chance of rain, and lake conditions, including surface temperature.
- Eight U.S. senators including Idaho Republicans James Risch and Mike Crapo called for British Columbia Premier John Horgan to address contamination from the province’s large-scale, open-pit hard rock and coal mines.
- Emily Ruskovich has won the International Dublin Literacy Award for her debut novel, “Idaho,” which tells the story of a family torn apart by violence. Ruskovich grew up in the Idaho Panhandle. She’s the fourth American to receive the award, which comes to nearly $113,000.
- American Legion Post 149 is hosting a retirement ceremony for worn, torn, faded or badly soiled U.S. flags at noon Saturday at 5525 E. Highway 54 in Athol followed by lunch and an auction.
