Zags, Huskies extend hoops

series through 2023-24 season

Gonzaga University and the University of Washington have extended their men’s basketball rivalry, the schools announced in a joint release Monday.

The programs have agreed to another four-year home-and-home series, beginning in Spokane during the 2020-21 season. The Zags and Huskies wrap up a previous home-and-home agreement this upcoming season in Seattle.

Gonzaga will return to Seattle in 2021-22 and 2023-24, and welcome Washington in the 2022-23 season.

The Huskies have won 29 of the 47 all-time meetings, but GU has won 12 of the last 13 matchups, including last season’s thrilling 81-79 victory in Spokane. It was the fifth straight win for the Bulldogs in the series, dating back to a 99-95 Washington win in Dec. 4, 2005.

The series ended following the meeting in the 2006-07 season, but the teams renewed the home-and-home series starting with the 2016-17 season, though the teams met during the 2014-15 season at the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Washington won the first meeting in the series, 23-14, on Feb. 24, 1910.
