George E. Babcock, 90

George E. Babcock, a longtime resident of Post Falls, Idaho, passed on to his eternal home on June 5, 2019. George was born on Dec. 12, 1928, in Mott, N.D., to Clyde T. and Verda (Bentley) Babcock. His parents divorced when he was 10 years old. He was raised by his father, and his mother had his younger brother, Morrie, with her.

George married Clara and they had one son, Clyde. They divorced when Clyde was 1 year old. George raised Clyde and they moved around with his father. They moved to Belle Fouche, S.D., and he met and married Gladys Wendt. They spent 65 years together. Their son, Steven, was born, and the family then moved to North Idaho, eventually settling on a small piece of acreage.

George worked various jobs. He retired from the Post Falls School District after serving as a custodian and bus driver.

Two more sons, Mark and Ben, joined the family. An infant son, Philip, died at birth.

George and Gladys were members of the Nazarene Church, though they had also attended the McGuire Wesleyan Church in Post Falls and the Starr Baptist Church in Otis Orchards, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; his infant son, Philip; sons Clyde and Mark; and his brother, Morrie. He is survived by son Steve (Chris); son Ben; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

These last years George spent at Guardian Angel Homes in Post Falls, where he was lovingly cared for by the staff.

A viewing will be held from 1:30–2 p.m., with a funeral service starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A private burial will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane, Wash.
