Bayley tied for second after first round of Lilac

Derek Bayley of Rathdrum shot a 6-under-par 66 on Thursday and is tied for second after the first day of the 56th Lilac City Invitational at The Fairways at West Terrace outside Cheney.

Bayley, formerly of Lakeland High and Washington State, and now a member of the PGA Tour Latinoamerica and the Mackenzie Tour (PGA Tour Canada), is tied with Kyle Mitsunaga from Crane Creek Country Club in Boise. Steve Tarkon from Redhawk Golf Course in Nampa leads with a 7-under 65.

North Idaho College men’s and women’s golf coach Russell Grove, the 2013 Lilac champion, shot 67 and is in a four-way tie for fourth. Billy Bomar, co-owner of Prairie Falls in Post Falls, is tied for 28th after shooting a 1-over 73.

The region’s only 72-hole tourney continues today and runs through Sunday.
