Correction

The May 31 article about an Idaho deputy attorney general’s letter regarding Kootenai County’s opt-out on building codes incorrectly quoted from the letter in two places. The correct sentences from the letter by Deputy Attorney General Spencer Holm are:

“Adoption of an opt-out provision does not appear to be consistent with the authority granted to local governments.”

“By adopting an opt-out provision, a local government would create building standards within its jurisdiction that would be both inconsistent with, and less restrictive than, the building standards adopted throughout the rest of the state.”
