Beulah Marjorie Carkhuff, 90

Beulah Marjorie Carkhuff was born April 1, 1929, to Donald Kenneth and Edna Cora (Loucks) Vore, in Keego Harbor, Mich. Beulah’s musical journey began during her childhood, when her father blessed her with her first piano. She grew up in Lansing, Mich., and graduated summa cum laude from Roosevelt High School in 1946.

She continued her education at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, where she studied business and music. While attending college she met James Carkhuff. The couple was united in marriage on Dec. 15, 1950, at the Church of the Nazarene in Nampa. Their union was blessed with four children: Marjorie, James, Jay and David, and 68 years of marriage together.

The couple made their home and raised their family in various communities and states in the northwest. Beulah worked as a pianist while pursuing a business degree, taught piano lessons from her home, and cared for her home and family. Beulah and James blessed many faith communities, churches and revivals with their combined gifts of piano and voice.

In 1970, the couple moved to Coeur d’Alene to be closer to Beulah’s parents. Following a decline in health during the past few years, Beulah died on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Kootenai Health, at the age of 90.

Beulah was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. She was an active member of the congregation, playing as a pianist. She had served the Church of the Nazarene, Hayden Friends Church and First Presbyterian Church. Beulah enjoyed teaching piano to students, needlepoint, making her own clothing, making music for others and, especially, time spent with her family.

Beulah is lovingly remembered by her husband, James, of Coeur d’Alene; her children, Marjorie Carkhuff of Post Falls; James L. Carkhuff of Coeur d’Alene; Jay Carkhuff (and Jake Kline) of Coeur d’Alene and David (and Ruthann) Carkhuff of Maine; her sister, Marian (and Robert) Parret of Nampa; and her nieces, Jan, Brenda, Holly and Karen. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold.

Blessed and eternal be the memory of Beulah Marjorie Carkhuff
