COEUR d’ALENE — The Showcase presented by Katerra, a benefit for the Community Cancer Fund, raised more than $4.2 million last weekend to aid in the fight against cancer.

The sixth annual celebrity/amateur Showcase golf tournament held at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course featured NHL legend Wayne Gretzky, two-time Super Bowl champion Jim McMahon, 11-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion Roger Clemens, Super Bowl MVP Marcus Allen, and World Series MVP Jermaine Dye.

The weekend also featured evening dinners with private concerts featuring Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi of the Blues Brothers and 2019 Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Keith Urban.

“We’ve all been impacted by cancer in some way,” Community Cancer Fund co-founder and tournament director Jerid Keefer said. “It was so powerful to see everyone in attendance this weekend — from guests to sponsors and celebrities — come together to help us with the local fight against cancer.”

All proceeds raised at the Showcase will be invested in the Inland Northwest through the Community Cancer Fund to support cancer patients and the organizations that serve them.

In its first five years, the Community Cancer Fund raised more than $17 million, including a $3 million endowment for Camp Goodtimes, a free summer camp for children affected by cancer and, most recently, more than $5 million for the completion of the Hospitality Center, a new 20-unit lodge on the Kootenai Health campus in Coeur d’Alene. It provides temporary housing for adult and pediatric patients seeking treatment.

The Community Cancer Fund plans to focus its attention on helping Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Inland Northwest with aggressive expansion plans in Spokane, opening its new facility by Feb. 1, 2020.
