Monte Earle Darling, age 85, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2019, with family and friends by his side.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019 at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave. Burial will follow the memorial at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Monte was born in Long Beach, Calif., on June 19, 1934. He graduated from Redlands High School. Monte was a veteran of the United States Army for the Third Armored Division and was honorably discharged in January 1955.
Monte worked for American Honda Motor Company for 24 years. He started out his career as a Honda dealer in Corona, Calif. He then moved to the Pacific Northwest and went to work for Honda of Canada for a brief period prior to joining American Honda in 1972.
Monte was a very successful flat track and scrambles motorcycle racer from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. He was very proud to be inducted into the Trailblazers Motorcycle Hall of Fame in January 2004.
Monte is survived by his wife, Janice; his siblings, Dick and Suzy; his four children, Jack, Deanna, Robert and Scott; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many loved family and friends.
Monte was preceded in death by his father, Richard; his mother, Nyla; his loved grandparents and his late wife, Jimmie, as well as many very close friends and fellow racers.
Monte is now free to go racing once again.
