'Singin' in the Rain' opens tonight at Post Falls High School
"Singin’ in the Rain" opens at 7 this evening on the Post Falls High School Theater stage at 2832 E. Poleline Ave.
In 2006, "Singin' in the Rain" was named by the American Film Institute as the No. 1 movie musical of all time. "Singin’ in the Rain" is faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, from their original award-winning screenplay. The film version, originally released by MGM in 1952, starred Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor, and has entertained audiences for generations.
"Singin’ in the Rain" is a hilarious “backstage” musical set in 1927 Hollywood, during the difficult transition from silent films to talking pictures.
In the story, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are the darlings of the silent silver screen and the biggest stars at Monumental Pictures. With the advent of “talkies,” the public demands musicals and the screechy-voiced Lina can’t sing or dance. With help from Don and his new girlfriend, the golden-throated, up-and-coming starlet, Kathy Seldon, the studio cooks up a scheme to have Kathy sing and provide the on-screen voice for Lina. But when Lina learns the studio’s secret, it’s heartbreak and hi-jinks for Don and Kathy.
"Singin’ in the Rain," presented by Christian Youth Theater — North Idaho's summer youth program, Christian Community Theater, runs through Aug. 4. Tickets can be purchased online at www.cytnorthidaho.org or through the box office at 208-929-0066 for $15 or at the door for $20.
