WHITEHEAD: Old 'news' is pathetic
Seriously? A 14-year-old notice of a personal bankruptcy filing rates a front page, top of the banner, bold headline? Re:“Sheriff candidate filed for bankruptcy in 2005,” I thought the Press was supposed to be a “news” paper.
And how does “the simplest and most common of bankruptcy” rate as an issue that could be “compromised by criminal elements” as his rival alleges? The case has been adjudicated and closed, the debts discharged accordingly.
What seems “unfortunate” to me is that Mr. Whitehead is such an eminently qualified candidate from “outside the good ol’ boy” hand-picked successor system that has presided over Kootenai County for so long, and this terrifies a bunch of folks who have invested so heavily in it. So instead of focusing on actual “issues” that confront the county going into the next decade, the Press chooses to exhume old bones from before Richard even moved to Idaho, and make it “FRONT PAGE” in attempt to derail his candidacy on his opponent’s behalf. No, on second thought, that’s not “unfortunate,” that’s pathetic.
