Idaho adds Moscow basketball star Quinnett

MOSCOW — The local product is staying in town, with former Moscow High star Gabe Quinnett joining the Idaho men’s basketball team ahead of the 2019-20 season.

“Gabe’s a young guard with length and size that shoots it really well,” Idaho interim head coach Zac Claus said. “He loves the game and is only going to get better. He’s a terrific student, has a great maturity about him and we’re lucky to have him.

“He’s been an Idaho fan for many years. To realize that dream and play for your hometown team and your state school is going to be a whole lot of fun.”

Quinnett, the son of former Washington State and NBA player Brian Quinnett, was stellar during his career with the Bears. He led the squad to three straight 4A Inland Empire League championships and three appearances in the state tournament. Quinnett was named the 4A Inland Empire League MVP in back-to-back seasons to close out his high school career.

A 6-4 guard, Quinnett averaged nearly 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists as a senior at Moscow High.

Afternoon kick set for Vandals, Wyoming on ESPN3

Idaho’s Sept. 14 football game at Wyoming will kick off at 2 p.m. PT at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, Wyo., it was announced. The game can be seen on ESPN3.

This season marks the eighth all-time meeting between the Vandals and Cowboys, and the first since 2013. Wyoming leads the series 6-1. Idaho’s victory came in the first game between the schools, played in Moscow in 1921. Idaho is 0-5 all-time on the road in the series, previously playing in Laramie in 1950, 1951, 1996, 1999 and 2013. The Vandals hosted Wyoming in 2012, a 40-37 overtime win for the Cowboys.

Tickets for all 2019 Idaho football away games will be available next Monday, via the Idaho Athletic Ticket Office. Purchasing tickets through Idaho Athletics guarantees a seat in the visiting team section alongside fellow Vandal fans.

Pac-12 announces 2019-20 men’s hoops weekly pairings

The Pac-12 Conference has released the weekly matchups and site designations for the league’s 2019-20 men’s basketball season.

The announcement reflects the games being played and the home/away designations each week of the Pac-12 regular season. Specific dates and times for each game within a week will be announced later this summer after selections by the league’s television partners are finalized. All 108 conference games will be televised by either Pac-12 Network, ESPN/2/U, FOX/FS1 or CBS.

This marks the final season of an 18-game Pac-12 schedule, as each league school will play 20 conference games beginning in 2020-21. Since the additions of Colorado and Utah in 2011-12, each Pac-12 school has played 18 conference games, resulting in playing four of the league teams just once in a season. This season WSU does not travel to the Oregon schools and will not host the Mountain schools, Colorado and Utah.

Washington State opens the Pac-12 season at home hosting USC and UCLA the week of Jan. 1-5. The following week the Cougars head to the Bay Area to take on California and Stanford (Jan. 8-12). After hosting Oregon and Oregon State, Jan. 15-19, WSU returns to the road to take on Colorado and Utah (Jan. 22-26). A two-week homestand will see WSU host Arizona State and Arizona (Jan. 29-Feb. 2), followed by Washington at Pullman the week of Feb. 5-9. The Cougars did not host the Arizona schools last season, as this marks their first trip to Pullman since the 2017-18 season.

WSU is on the road for three of the final four weeks of the regular season as it heads to Los Angles for the first time since the 2017-18 season to take on UCLA and USC (Feb. 12-16), followed by its only homestand in four weeks as it hosts Stanford and California (Feb. 19-23). Trips to Washington (Feb. 26-March 1) and Arizona (March 5-7) round out the regular season. The Pac-12 Tournament will take place March 11-14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
