Courtesy photo After losing their first 2 games (by a total of 5 runs), the Post Falls Blast came back to finish fourth out of16 teams in at the USA Softball 14U state tournament July 12-14 in Caldwell. Haylee Smit had 8 RBIs on 8 hits, including 4 doubles and 1 home run; Harley See had 8 RBIs on 5 hits, including two doubles and a triple; and Sophie Solberg had 4 RBIs on 7 hits, including two triples. Haylee Smit lead the pitching with 18 strikeouts, and a 1.56 ERA. Courtesy photo The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 13U team concluded the 2019 spring/summer baseball season by winning the Northwest Blazer Tournament held in Coeur d’Alene and Spokane this past weekend. The team went 3-0-1 over the weekend and defected the Iron Pigs 13U team 5-2 at Mead High in Spokane for the championship. The 13U team compiled a 33-12-3 record this season. Courtesy photo Four players from North Idaho helped the Eastern Washington Surf 2003 Girls Premier soccer team win the US Club Soccer 16U Girls NPL national championship on Monday in Commerce City, Colo. They are the first Puget Sound Premier League team to win a national championship. The Surf won their league, qualifying them for the national tournament, where they defeated teams from Boston, Dallas, Mount Pleasant and Hattiesburg, Miss. The Surf lost their first pool-play game to Boston but later defeated Boston 1-0 in the championship game. From left are Jordie Breeden, forward, Sandpoint High; Holly Hudson, midfielder, Coeur d’Alene High; Emily Ray, goalkeeper, Lake City High; and Ava Jakich-Kunze, midfielder, Moscow High. Breeden scored the winning goal in the championship game.
