NExA will break ground Thursday

Coeur d’Alene School District will break ground on its new elementary school at noon Thursday.

The Northwest Expedition Academy opened two years ago inside the former Hayden Lake School on North Government Way. The new school is being built on the south side of Prairie Avenue just east of Hospice of North Idaho.

The 53,355-square-foot school is scheduled to open in September 2020. It will serve 600 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The $12.5 million project is being financed as part of a $35.5 million bond measure voters approved in March 2017.

The district bought the 7.1-acre site on Prairie Avenue in May 2018. The Board of Trustees voted in April to designate the new school the permanent home of the Northwest Expedition Academy.

Members of the school district’s Board of Trustees and administration will attend the ground-breaking ceremony, along with representatives of Architects West and Ginno Construction Co., the general contractor.

Parking is available at the Hospice Community Services Building on the south side of the Hospice campus.
