KINDNESS: Served up with a burger

| July 14, 2019 1:00 AM

My wife and I decided to go to McDonald’s for a sandwich Wednesday after a frustrating morning of septic issues. Having done some digging, we were not dressed for success, so to speak.

So at the McDonald’s restaurant on U.S. 95 and Hanley, I ran in to get a sandwich for both of us, as she stayed out in the truck with our wiener dogs (one is only 10 weeks old). Well, I forgot my wallet, and she brought it in, carrying our new Dachshund “Shelby.” Everyone in line had to touch the little adorable pup. I made a comment to the five or so people in line in front of me, “I will trade the dog for a meal.” My wife, Mar, went back out in the truck with Shelby, and within seconds a young girl maybe 14-15 came to me and said, “I will buy you some lunch,” and offered me money.

I was floored. I told her she was so sweet and that I was just kidding. She laughed and went and sat back down with friends. I said to a woman with a couple of small children in front of me what a kindhearted person she was. The lady replied, I guess knowing her: “That’s the way she has been brought up.”

After I received my order, I went to the young lady’s table where she sat with a lot of friends and expressed my grateful thanks at her offer. In turn I handed her the cash I had in hand and said “Let me buy your next lunch.”

My wife and I thought about this later, and this is one of several kind deeds area residents have done. Her parents would be so proud of this girl.
