Barry William Newcomb
Barry passed away on May 6, 2019, with his family at his side, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in April of 1938, to Ward B. and Ella Mae Newcomb. His parents were residents of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, and that is where he was raised. He attended Dalton Gardens Grade School, Borah Middle School and he graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1956.
He married Sharon Jensen in 1957. They moved to Seattle, where he became a member of the Seattle Fire Department in 1961. He was one of Seattle’s first paramedics in 1970.
Barry and Sharon raised three daughters: Laura Newcomb Kappler (Chris), Nancy Lillquist (Karl) and Anne Newcomb Sherwin (John). He encouraged them in 4-H, where he helped lead long trail rides on horses in the Cascades. He was a skilled craftsman and built a beautiful log home in Kent, Wash., where Sharon preceded him in death.
He remarried in 2000 to Candy Kramlich of Seattle. They spent time traveling and made a move to Tucson, Ariz., where they enjoyed the weather and their time together.
He was very proud of his two grandsons: Eric and Jensen Lillquist. Additional survivors include his three sisters, Eva Martin (James) of Paradise, Calif., Barbara Olson (Ronald) of Seattle and twin, Bonnie Connell (John) of Pinehurst, Idaho, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was loved and will be missed for his smile, wit and generosity.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at Ward Newcomb Memorial Park in Dalton Gardens, Idaho.
