Manzardo, Smith lead Lums at tourney

BOISE — Marcus Manzardo went 3 for 4, drove in four runs and scored twice as the Coeur’Alene Lumbermen beat the Boise Gems 14-8 on Friday at Borah High’s Wigle Field on the second day of the Boise Summer Series.

Riley Smith went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for Coeur d’Alene, 1-2 in tourney play.

Manzardo hit an RBI single in the sixth inning and a two-run double in the seventh.

Smith hit an RBI double in the third and a two-run single in the seventh.

Alex Karns went 2 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs for the Lums. Breyson Coppess went 2 for 3 and scored twice, and Quinn Conces also had two hits.

Today, Coeur d’Alene (26-13-1) is scheduled to play Rocky Mountain at 10:45 a.m. PDT at Centennial High, and Tri-Cities at 4:15 p.m. at Wigle Field.
