Albert Gordon Scott

1937 — 2019

Gordon Scott passed away in Coeur d’Alene on July 3, 2019, following a short illness. He was 82.

He and his wife Myleen just moved back to Idaho in early June from California. They had lived in Post Falls, Idaho, ten years earlier but moved to Hemet, Calif. to care for his ailing sister, Wendy Angela Scott.

Gordon was born in Manchester, England, in 1937, the son of an aircraft mechanic. The family immigrated to Ontario, Canada, in 1950, where he attended Brampton District High School and played football. After graduating from Brampton, he worked for Canada Packers, a meat packing company in Ontario. Gordon married Marilyn Elliot of Belleville, Ontario, and the couple moved to California when he was 22. They had two children, Heather and Robert, both now living in the South Bay district of Los Angeles.

The Scotts were divorced in 1992.

Gordon was employed at Northrup-Grumman at TRW, in Redondo Beach, working in microchip development, and later at TRW, in Redondo Beach, in a similar position. Years later, he returned to Northrup.

While working full time, he studied industrial engineering technology for 11 years at night school, including courses at the University of Southern California and UCLA.

He finally earned a BS degree in industrial engineering at California State University, Long Beach, at age 45. Leaving the aerospace industry, Gordon and his daughter, Heather Waid, purchased a travel agency in Lawndale, Calif., which enabled them to travel extensively overseas.

He retired from the travel business in the 1980s and began network marketing, during which time he met friend, Syd Albright, then living in Malibu, now in Post Falls, Idaho,

writing the “History Corner” column for the Coeur d’Alene/Post Falls Press and affiliated publications.

In 2003, Gordon was invited to attend a renewal of vows ceremony by a Filipino couple living in Pasadena, Calif. The ceremony was held in the city of Buena Vista on Mindanao Island, where he met Myleen Daguipa, a graduate from the University of Cebu with a degree in hotel management, but at that time working at an electronics manufacturing company.

They were married in 2005, in the Philippines at Cebu, and returned to the U.S., where they settled in Pasadena.

After Albright and his wife, Chickie, moved to Post Falls in 2005, Gordon and Myleen followed shortly thereafter. Three years later, the Scotts returned to California to care for his sister, who subsequently passed away.

The Scotts remained in Hemet but then decided to return to Idaho.

Suffering from a lung ailment, Gordon’s condition suddenly worsened. He passed away at Kootenai Medical Center on July 3, with Myleen at his side. Myleen will return to the Philippines soon to hold a memorial service for Gordon with her Buena Vista family, and then return to Idaho.
