- Tony Bamonte, a well-known Northwest author, historian and former three-term Pend Oreille County sheriff, died Thursday of pancreatic cancer. He was 77.

- The city of Spirit Lake and the Community Library Network will hold a free Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Spirit Lake Elementary. Garbage, police, fire, military and SWAT rigs will be featured. There will also be a helicopter, motorcycles and a K9 demonstration.
