Lums drop two to open tourney in Boise area

| July 11, 2019 11:20 PM

Coeur d’Alene rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull within two with the bases loaded, but the comeback fell just short as the Lumbermen lost 7-5 to the Boise Capitals on Thursday at Capital High in the first game of the Boise Summer Series.

Later Thursday, Coeur d’Alene lost 14-7 in six innings to the Columbia Reach of Kennewick, Wash., at Mountain View High in Meridian.

After two runs scored on an error against the Capitals in the seventh, Quinn Conces hit an RBI single to pull Coeur d’Alene within 7-4. Marcus Manzardo drew a bases-loaded walk — his second RBI of the game — before Boise retired the next batter to end the game.

Manzardo hit an RBI single in the fourth.

Later, Manzardo hit a pair of RBI singles and finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Lums vs. Columbia. Landen Thompson went 2 for 3 and scored twice, and Breyson Coppess also went 2 for 3.

Coeur d’Alene (25-13-1) is scheduled to play the Boise Gems today at 4:15 at Borah High’s Wigle Field as pool play continues.
