IMMIGRATION: Common sense, speak up
In response to the article on the front page of the Coeur d’Alene Press on July 3 titled, “Liberals to leaders, close the camps.” These are my views on the immigration issue.
Your article stated that Trump supporters believe that liberals (and I guess that means Democrats such as I am) caused the issue by not dealing with the immigration “crisis.” They say they want to keep America great by deporting “criminal aliens and building the wall that Trump promised Mexico would pay for (now of course they want us to pay for).
They say Democrats are for open borders, but they know this is not true! As one of Hitler’s top generals famously said, “Tell the big lie and tell it often and the masses will believe it.”
I urge you to do some research on just how many times President Obama tried to plan a comprehensive reform package and the Republicans, led by Boehner, either refused to bring it to vote or voted it down. On Dec. 11, 2018, Congress had reached a deal with Trump, who at the time said he was all for it. But then his adviser from Fox News, Laura Ingraham, chastised him for it and he blew up the deal and shut the government down, causing much suffering among our citizens.
Idaho Sen. Crapo is quoted saying he supports a program that provides employers with a reliable and verifiable system to identify employees. Such a program has been in effect for many years now and it is E-Verify. It is not used and not enforced. Want to stop illegal immigration? Put the employer in jail, not just a small fine when they break the law.
I have many Republican acquaintances who tell me, “I do not like the way Trump calls people names or denigrates women and the disabled, but I like his policies.” My motto in life (taken from Maya Angelou) is this: “When someone shows you who they are, believe it.” So people, believe it. This is exactly who Trump is in his soul.
