OPINIONS: The rebuttals continue

| July 7, 2019 1:00 AM

Recently the Press printed my “Opinion” letter. The editor added the title, “DEPLORABLE: AND PROUD OF IT.” Bless his little heart, he just had to add a little “Fake News” with that title because nowhere in my letter did I say that.

Since my letter and the title given it, I’ve been criticized, most recently by Janet Callen, for, and I quote, “vilifying” Joe Lykins who I felt belittled millions of people who voted for Trump when he wrote, and I quote, “Like the Confederate and Nazi flags, MAGA will serve chiefly to point out someone who is politically lazy and will believe whatever someone else tells them to believe.” Then I wrote to Joe, “You may not be, but your comment came across like a typical elitist and that is what put Trump in office ... and most likely will again. So, Janet, if what I said is ‘vilifying’ what is Joe’s?”

But, it’s OK; and I mean that. This back and forth is what freedom is all about. We are truly blessed in this awesome country. Joe, if as diplomatic as I tried to be, failed, I apologize to you. We all have opinions and passion about things that others may not agree with. I hope and pray our opinions and passions don’t tear this country apart.

One last thing, Janet. I hesitate to add this because of your feeling about religion, but if you care to know me better, this is what I “try” to live by. Psalms 1:1-3.
