A 33-year-old man reportedly fired a shot at another man in an apartment at Fourth Street and Wallace Avenue, Capt. Dave Hagar of Coeur d’Alene Police said late Sunday afternoon. The shooter, who was not injured, was taken into custody at 5:50 p.m.
Hagar said the apparent target was not hit and successfully escaped. Police knew of no reason for a confrontation between the alleged shooter and the intended victim, who was acquainted with the alleged shooter’s roommate.
After using flash-bangs to disorient any potential threats, police deployed a robot equipped with a camera in the apartment. Varying reports as to the number of gunshots necessitated police see inside the premises to determine the shooter’s condition.
A heavily armed SWAT team on scene was made up of half Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies and half Coeur d’Alene police officers. Coeur d’Alene police typically has 82 officers, Hagar said, but the department was short-handed Sunday after seven officers involved in the City Park shooting July 4 were put on administrative leave.
