Lums fall short of advancing at wood-bat tourney
COEUR d’ALENE — They put themselves in a position to advance, but the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen saw their tourney run end Sunday night with a 12-2 loss to the Kennewick (Wash.) Outlaws in the final game of pool play at the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic at Thorco Field.
Coeur d’Alene (24-11-1) finished 3-2 in the pool. Kennewick finished 5-0 and advanced to a semifinal game this morning at A.K. Jackson Field in Spokane. The Parkland Twins of Spruce Grove, Alberta, who edged the Lums 4-3 on Saturday night, finished 4-1, their lone loss coming to Kennewick on Friday.
Earlier Sunday, Coeur d’Alene defeated the Spokane Northstars 8-4. Jackson Scherr and Jake Brown each drove in a pair of runs for the Lums, and Landen Thompson hit two triples.
In the second game, Jackson Lind hit a three-run homer to cap a 12-run first inning for Kennewick.
Coeur d’Alene plays host to Mt. Spokane on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Thorco Field, then heads south for the Boise Summer Classic starting Thursday.
